CEMS Venice Night

Each semester, CEMS gala event is the most important social happening for the CEMS Prague community, being a meeting of different generations of students, alumni, academic management of the programme and representatives of cooperating companies. This year, the event thematically called “CEMS Venice Night” took place on April 5, 2012 in P.M. Club.

As the title suggests, the theme of Venice Carnival has been underlying the whole event and reflected not only through stylish decorations and traditional Venetian masks, but also by incorporating a dance performance and a light show into the programme.

This formal evening also became the place for new board elections of CEMS Alumni Association Prague, an organisation of Prague CEMS alumni which aims to preserve contacts between former CEMS students after their entrance into professional life. Both by present alumni and by on-line vote Vojtech Oplestil, class of 2007, was elected a new President.

Martin Strnad, the CEMS Club president, launched the event by welcoming all the guests on behalf of the organizational team. Then, the cosy atmosphere of the evening has been induced by life music performed by Sax&rhythm band which presented both jazz standards and modern songs with a touch of jazz. This was followed by a dance performance and short Bachata class during which the space below the stage got filled by dancing couples striving to imitate the steps and rhythms of this Caribbean dance. The event programme then continued until late night hours.

Traditionally, the CEMS gala event has been associated with a charitable activity, this time in cooperation with Kapka Nadeje foundation. The yield from the raffle to which partner companies contributed by valuable prizes, has been donated to support the department of haematology and oncology at Children clinic of Motol Faculty Hospital. Zdenka Rezkova from the foundation came to the event to officially take over a symbolic check for the amount of CZK 9 850 collected at the event.

Thanks for such a great event belong to all the guests, participating companies, performers and the organizational team.
